As per a report:

In a strange yet different attempt to spread the message of protecting cows, a group in Bhavnagar Kotiya village in Gujarat conducted a lavish wedding for 'Poonam' the cow and 'Arjun' the bull. More than 300 guests, including the 'relatives' of Poonam, were seen heading for the groom Arjun's house.

Gold jewellery, a red saree and a netted shawl was arranged for the bride and a festive white cloth was bought for Arjun. Brahmin priests were brought in from Bhavnagar to officiate the wedding and the entire wedding cost Poonam and Arjun's owners around Rs. 18 lakh. In a one of its kind event, the Parasana Charitable Trust prepared a wedding invitation for the couple.

Apparently, the owners were conducting such a lavish ceremony to show that the value of cows in the society is immeasurable. "I have been living with cows for the last 30 years and hence, know the amount of love this animal is capable of. I don't mind having a modest wedding for my children, but I will get my daughter Poonam married in the most lavish manner possible," Vijaybhai, trustee of Parsana Charitable Trust and Poonam's owner, told ANI. The guests were treated to a sumptuous feast, including Gujarati dal, Phulwadi, Ladva and Undhiyu.

The guests, accompanied by a three-member wedding orchestra, began a procession from the groom's village and the bride travelled in a palanquin that was erected on a truck. The bovine couple were married according to proper Hindu rituals and a special havan was also planned to pray for an early offspring.

As per a report:

A bride in India walked out of her wedding ceremony after the groom failed to solve a simple math problem, police said Friday. The bride tested the groom on his math skills and when he got the sum wrong, she walked out. The question she asked: How much is 15 plus six? His reply: 17. The incident took place late Wednesday in Rasoolabad village near the industrial town of Kanpur in northern Uttar Pradesh state, local police officer Rakesh Kumar said Friday.

The groom’s family tried persuading the bride to return, but she refused. She said the groom had misled them about his education. “The groom’s family kept us in the dark about his poor education,” said Mohar Singh, the bride’s father. “Even a first grader can answer this.” Local police mediated between the families and both sides returned all the gifts and jewelry that had been exchanged before the wedding, Kumar said.

Last month, another bride in Uttar Pradesh married a wedding guest after the original groom had a seizure and collapsed at the wedding venue. The groom’s family had not revealed that the groom was epileptic. While the groom was rushed to a hospital in Rampur town, the bride asked one of the wedding guests to step in and married him.

As per a report:

In a bizzare story from this new report, a young bride actually turned out to be a boy after the marriage. This unfortunate incident took place with 37-year-old Balak Ram, a resident of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh in India. According to reports, Balak Ram paid Rs 50, 000 to get married to Hukum Singh, a dance troupe leader, who had promised him to find a bride.

As per his promise, Hukum Singh introduced Balak Ram who is reported to be mentally unsound, to a 29-year-old Raj Kumari and within 48-hour their wedding was solemnized. The wedding function was attended by number of Balak's relatives and friends. A whole week after the wedding, Balak Ram discovered to his disappointment that his shying young bride, Raj Kumari was actually a Raj Kumar.

He was, in reality, a 15-year-old boy. Police investigation revealed that Rajkumar (the bride) was a member of Hukkam Singh's dance troupe, and had agreed to don the role of bride for Rs 10,000. During the questioning, Rajkumar told that Hukum Singh advised him to run away from the village whenever he get the chance. Though, the matter has reached at police station, but still the cops are unsure over how to proceed in the case.

As per one report:

An Indian wedding turned to horror on Thursday when the bride was shot dead by a cousin who believed she had "cheated" on him. Dr. Jaishri Namdeo, 29, was standing with her groom onstage in the city of Bhopal when Anurag Singh allegedly stormed up the aisle and shot her at point-blank range.

Singh, who had entered the wedding disguised as a photographer, then attempted to shoot himself but missed and grazed a nearby guest, allowing witnesses to tackle him to the ground. They then disarmed the shooter and beat him violently until police arrived.

Namdeo, a pediatrician, died later in hospital from a single wound to the neck. Her husband, Rohit Namdeo, a surgeon, survived the attack. Unconfirmed reports suggest that they may have studied together in the past.

Unmarried man demands a Bride from a candidate ahead of Lok Sabha elections

Subscribe to My Viuz Subscribe to My Viuz in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to My Viuz in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to My Viuz in MY MSN! Subscribe to My Viuz in MY AOL! Subscribe to My Viuz in Rojo!
As per a report:

An unmarried man demanded a bride from a candidate ahead of Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, a state with the lowest sex ratio in the country - 877 women per 1,000 men. An abnormally large number of unmarried men in Haryana has even led to the creation of informal "randa unions". Their slogan is "Bahu dilao-vote pao" (Get us a bride-get our vote) ahead of elections.

The gender imbalance caused by female foeticide has become so acute that members of these unions and elders in many villages say they will raise the issue when politicians arrive for poll meetings. "The villagers will raise this issue, though in a lighter vein," said Sunil Jaglan, sarpanch of Bibipur village in Jind. The "bahu dilao-vote pao" slogan came from the Kunwara Union, set up in Jind in 2009 by Pawan Kumar, now its chairman.

"The government must not only attack female foeticide but also find jobs for young men in Haryana. Unemployment is also a factor for us not getting brides," he said. The union had even organized a protest march five years ago to demand brides.

Bride gets married in the same 1950 dress worn by her Mother AND Grandmother

Now what would you say to this Bride who got married in the same 1950 dress worn by her Mother AND Grandmother. As per one report:

Choosing the perfect wedding dress could not have been easier for sentimental Lucy Popovic. The bride, 31, had imagined since she was a little child how she would look on her big day – in the white flowing gown worn by her mother AND grandmother at their weddings.

Romantic Lucy said: “I had always thought the dress was beautiful – and hoped that one day I would get to wear it. I felt really lucky to be able to use it.” The family helped her give the six decades old garment a spruce up after she announced she was to marry Australian partner Mark Popovic. Rather strangely, they used a homemade mixture of aspirin and white vinegar to restore the dress to its former glory.

And in another touch of nostalgia, Lucy and Mark picked the 63rd wedding anniversary of her gran Mel and grandad Ian Calder, who had wed in South Kensington, Central London, in 1950. Lucy, from Solva in Pembrokeshire, Wales, said: “The occasion had extra significance to be able to share it with them. “It will be something we will always treasure. My grandparents have had such a long and happy marriage and we hope we will be celebrating both wedding anniversaries for many years to come.”
