Where Elephants Receive Elaborate Spa Treatments

Every year a group of pampered elephants at the Punnathoor Cotta Elephant Yard Rejuvenation Centre receive elaborate spa treatments. The elephant yard is attached to the Guruvayurappan Hindu temple in Kerala, India.

The rejuvenation centre – which is attached to the famous Guruvayurappan Hindu temple – can host up to 59 elephants, and the tusked giants are happy to laze in the water while workers scrub them clean with brushes.The elephants play a key role in Kerala’s legendary temple processions and – with July considered a month of rejuvenation for humans and animals alike – these ellies are certainly not complaining.

Govt wants Flyovers for use by Wild Elephants!

NEW DELHI: The Centre's suggestion to construct underpasses and flyovers for safe passage of elephants to reduce deaths on railway tracks evoked the Supreme Court's derisive comment - why not put up a road sign to inform the pachyderms to use these as safe paths

 Puns apart, a bench of Justices K S Radhakrishnan and Vikramjit Sen lost no time in conveying the seriousness with which it viewed the large number of elephants getting knocked down in the eastern and north-eastern states - Odisha, West Bengal and Assam - and asked the Centre to study the safety module implemented by Karnataka, which reported no such death of elephants on tracks last year.

Seven Elephants Killed After Train Ploughs into Herd

As per a report:

Seven elephants have died in India after a speeding train ploughed into a herd in West Bengal. The elephants were hit by a train near Nagrakata in the Jalpaiguri district. Of the dead, two were calves. Several other elephants in the herd of around 40 were injured by the train, which was travelling in excess of 40km/h. 

The West Bengal Forest department said that over 10 elephants have been killed by trains in north Bengal, senior officials said. Authorities with the Forest Department want the speed limit reduced to 25km/h along the route where the elephants were killed. "The incident is a result of callousness on the part of the Railways. There is a clear restriction on speed, not exceeding 40 kmph. But we have reports that the Guwahati-bound Kabiguru Express was running at a higher speed," minister Hiten Barman told The Hindu.

"We have repeatedly urged the Railways not to use the 165-km-long track between Siliguri and Alipurduar. Instead, they should use an alternative route as elephant corridors run across the existing one." The incident took place 55km from Jalpaiguri town and the train involved was a passenger train heading to Dibrugarh in Assam, NDTV reports.

Elephants too have Feelings & they take Revenge too

Do Elephants have Feelings?? Can they take Revenge on humans if their feelings are disturbed very much???

As per Yahoo news: Last week near the village of Matari in eastern India, a Kolkata-Delhi Duronto Express train struck and killed an elephant — an accident that is unfortunately commonplace in that region. The response by the herd is more surprising. About 15 elephants appear to be mourning the loss of one of their own and have returned to the site of the incident, the Times of India said. The elephants have refused to move the last several days, causing train disruptions. 

The elephants also appear to be grieving in a more destructive way. They've damaged surrounding houses and even demolished part of a schoolhouse. Efforts to disperse the elephants using firecrackers have been unsuccessful. The elephants have persisted in their vigil. Read full story here

Seeing this incident I am of the firm view that not only elephants but all animals have feelings & they shall strike back on you if you shall disturb their feelings.....what do you say on it????
