Cat Photograph on Aadhar Card - NRI booked

In Indian state of Kerala’s Kasaragod district, Police registered a criminal case against an NRI and an employee of an IT-based services delivery centre after the duo got an Aadhaar card registration done for a cat. Police said they acted upon a complaint from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), after officials at its regional centre in Bengaluru noticed that the photo of a cat had been uploaded in an Aadhaar application form.

The officials told police they had noticed the photo of the NRI’s pet cat in the application form while processing it for issuing the card. Police said the case was registered against Azeez Abdulla, an NRI from Kasaragode, and a female staffer at Akshaya Centre, an IT-enabled services delivery centre. Abdulla, who is employed in the Gulf, wanted to take his Persian cat with him abroad. When a travel agent told him that the cat would need some valid identification documentation for a trip overseas, he decided to apply for an Aadhaar card for his pet.

The staffer at the centre accepted the application form for the cat, which was given a fake name. She also got its photo uploaded in the form and completed other required formalities. Police sources said after the applicant got queries from UIDAI officials, Abdulla tendered an apology.

Cat gets £10,000 in Will

One of Ukip's largest one-off donors left £10,000 to his beloved cat Hotchpotch in a will, it has emerged. Malcolm Richards, who died aged 73, gave the anti-EU party almost £100,000 after amassing a £1.5m fortune, making him Ukip's fifth-biggest donor since the election.

Little is known about the bachelor from Torquay, Devon, other than the warm affection he held for his pet, whose whereabouts is unknown but is believed to be still alive, The Times reports. Among the organisations and friends left money in Mr Richards's will was his cat Hotchpotch, for whom £10,000 was set aside to cover the costs of "upkeep and maintenance".

Prison guards nabbed an audacious cat after it was caught red-handed trying to smuggle two bags of cannabis into a prison in Moldova. The prison authorities are now looking for the moggy's trainer, who they believe may live in the nearby village of Pruncul and has been supplying inmates with illegal drugs for some time.

The prison officers became suspicious of the grey and white cat, which regularly came and went through a hole in the fence, when they noticed it was wearing a peculiar collar.

Macy the Labrador stepped in when Rory the ginger tom became ill after eating rat poison. Vet Kate Heller, of Tauranga in New Zealand, said the feeble feline was fading fast and needed an immediate transfusion to survive. She searched for a suitable donor cat but could not find one quickly enough. Ms Heller decided to take a gamble and use dog blood to try to save the animal, knowing Rory would die instantly if she gave him the wrong type. 

Rory's owner Kim Edwards frantically called up her friend Michelle Whitmore, who volunteered Macy as a blood donor. The vet took 120ml of blood from the 18-month-old Labrador and transferred it to the cat, which started to recover within an hour. Read more here
