As per a report:

Can You imagine that someone can chop off and donate his finger for the sake of his political idols? The saga of sycophancy in Indian political history reached a new height when a Karnataka man donated one of his fingers at Tirupati. The offering was made at the famous Hindu temple after Congress leaders, Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul, got bail in the National Herald case.

The "painful sacrifice" of Induvalu Suresh, a 35-year-old businessman from Ramanagaram, near Bengaluru made national headlines. A bloody affair After the news broke out, Suresh was hailed as the Congress Ekalavya. It was Ekalavya in the epic Mahabharata who sacrificed his right thumb for his Guru Dronacharya. The only difference between the famous archer and Suresh is the choice of their fingers-Ekalavya's thumb was replaced by Suresh's little finger.

When all of us were celebrating Christmas on December 25, Suresh went to Tirupati, chopped off his little finger and dropped it in the hundi (donation box) as a token of gratitude. However, the news of his 'supreme' sacrifice broke out only a few days ago. "The entire Congress party was worried when Sonia and Rahul were summoned by the court. I took a vow that if my leaders are granted bail I will offer my finger to God," Suresh told TOI. "I wrapped the finger in a Rs 1,000 note with a letter thanking God for granting bail to Sonia and Rahul and dropped it in the hundi. I did not feel any pain when I cut my finger. Later, I went to the hospital adjacent to the temple and told the doctor that I lost my finger while repairing the AC compressor of my car," Suresh added.

Like many of us, Karnataka housing minister and popular actor MH Ambareesh was also appalled by the bizarre act. "You are Kalyug's Ekalavya. But we don't want sycophancy of pain," Ambareesh told Suresh. When politicians turn gods A popular method adopted by followers to express their admiration for their favourite politicians is to build temples in the name of their leaders. Thus, we have temples with lookalike idols dedicated to MG Ramachandran (MGR), Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Narendra Modi, Sonia Gandhi and others.

As per a report:

In a weird & bizarre incident in Lahore in Pakistan, a nine-month-old Pakistani boy has been booked for attempted murder by attacking a police team here. Musa was produced in court where Additional District and Sessions Judge Rafaqat Ali granted bail to the minor till April 12 and directed the police to “record his statement.” Police arrested Musa and his father

Ahmed in an attempted murder case by attacking police team during raids in Muslim Town, Lahore and produced them in court. Counsel for the accused, Irfan Tarar, said the minor would again be produced in the court during the next hearing. “The bail of the minor will be confirmed once the police declare him innocent,” he said. Senior Superintendent of Police Rana Jabbar said there had been misunderstanding on the part of police to book the minor in the case.

He said he had suspended Sub-Inspector Kashif Ahmed for registering the case against the child. The child’s father said police had registered a fake case against him, his son and 25 others. “Our crime is that we had protested against non-availability of electricity in our locality,” he said and urged authorities concerned to quash the FIR.

Heavily-Tattooed Man denied Passport for his Weird Name

As per a report:

Britain’s most heavily-tattooed man has been denied a passport for having an unusual name. His name reads “King of Ink Land King Body Art The Extreme Ink-Ite”. The 34-year-old, previously known as Mathew Whelan, adopted the moniker by deed poll four years ago, The Independent reported. “This is a breach of my human rights,” he was quoted by the daily.

“They want to put my birth name on my passport. But that is not my name any more,” he argued. The passport office refused to issue the document to Body Art, as he is known in short, despite his new name already showing on his driving license. Body Art has spent more than 25,000 pounds covering his skin in tattoos, including the whites of his eyeballs.

He was planning to travel overseas, where he had been offered body modification work. But despite filling out the relevant forms and paying the 72.50 pounds fee, the passport office sent him a letter on January 15 that said they were sticking to their policy and could not issue a passport because of his name.

The government agency told the Birmingham Mail that a policy section regarding “strings of words or phrases” meant his name was not admissible. “When an applicant changes his or her name to a string of words or phrases that would not normally be recognised as a name, this should not be entered on to the personal details page of the passport,” the section reads.

Cockroach Farm

As per one report:

Farmers are pinning their future on the often-dreaded insect, which when dried goes for as much as $20 a pound — for use in Asian medicine and in cosmetics.

China has about 100 cockroach farms, and new ones are opening almost as fast as the prolific critters breed. But even among Chinese, the industry was little known until August, when a million cockroaches got out of a farm in neighboring Jiangsu province. The Great Escape made headlines around China and beyond, evoking biblical images of swarming locusts.

The start-up costs are minimal — Wang bought only eggs, a run-down abandoned chicken coop and the roofing tile. Notoriously hearty, roaches aren't susceptible to the same diseases as farm animals. As for feeding them, cockroaches are omnivores, though they favor rotten vegetables. Wang feeds his brood with potato and pumpkin peelings discarded from nearby restaurants.

Perhaps understandably, the cockroach business ("special farming," as it is euphemistically called) is a fairly secretive industry. Wang's farm, for instance, operates in an agribusiness industrial park under an elevated highway. The sign at the front gate simply reads Jinan Hualu Feed Co. Some companies that use cockroaches don't like to advertise their "secret ingredient." And the farmers themselves are wary of neighbors who might not like a cockroach farm in their backyard.

Now what you have to say on it....pl. comment.

Toilet Restaurant - Toilet-themed Eatery outside Los Angeles

Yes, it's true that a restaurant believed to be America's first toilet-themed eatery has opened just outside Los Angeles. As per one report:

The bathroom has been brought into the dining room, with customers sitting on lavatories instead of chairs while they eat. But the restroom theme does not stop there.

The food, which includes pork over rice and spicy shredded chicken, is served in miniature ceramic toilet bowls and urinals. But diners at the Taiwanese eatery seem to enjoy the experience. Speaking at the Magic Restroom Cafe, one said: "The way they serve us on top of some toilet dishes and sitting on top of a toilet seat, it's very unique. "And some people even put their purses inside the toilets, so it's hilarious."

Another diner said: "It's really great and interesting for me because we wanted something new to try. This is a good atmosphere for me." Several similar restaurants are already in operation in various parts of Asia.

Now what you have to say on it....pl. comment.

Bizarre Visa Questions

As per one report here are bizarre visa questions being asked:

A poll by a visa submission website asked travelers to recount the most unusual questions they had ever been asked. Among the strangest, was a question on a Mexican visa form asking the applicant to "describe their beard/mustache."

The responses applicants could choose from included "scanty," "bushy" or "clipped." Meanwhile, a man traveling to a Middle Eastern country was asked "how many wives do you intend to bring?" during his application process. Some seemingly odd questions may have a rational basis for being on the application form -- Australia, for instance, which takes quarantine very seriously, asks if travelers "have been to a farm in the past six weeks." Others just boggle the mind. Several travelers were asked, "What side of the bed does your wife sleep on?" when applying for a U.S. visa, while those heading to China were asked about the reason for visiting, with "visit" being one of the available responses.

Now what you have to say on it....pl. comment.

Toilet Museum in India which exhibits Weird and Wonderful Historical Loos

Now what would you say to this Toilet museum which exhibits weird and wonderful historical loos to campaign for better hygiene in India. As  per one report:

A new museum has used hundreds of toilets to create a weird and wonderful exhibition - all to promote better hygiene in India. The museum in New Delhi, India, has made toilets a work of art, and they are a key to finding out more about our history.

The Sublabh International Museum of Toilets showcases lavatories from the 1700s, ladies' chamber pots, and French disguised toilets. But perhaps the biggest attraction to this new world of sanitation is the replica of the throne of King Louis the XIV. Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of the NGO Sulabh International, which founded the museum, said: “It is indeed a very unusual museum and it’s the only one of its kind in the world. “A highlight of the museum is the replica of the throne of King Louis the XIV.

The king is believed to have used this to defecate while conducting court sessions.” Hundreds flock each month to browse the facts, pictures and artifacts that date back to 2,500 BC. Let's just hope the plumbing keeps working or they will be in deep, well, trouble. Curators scoured the globe for unusual toilets to make the display as interesting as possible, and it doesn't disappoint.

There are privies, chamber pots, toilet furniture, bidets and water closets, and the information boards tell you everything you could wish to know about sanitation across the world. Who wouldn't want to know where medieval women perched after all? With sanitation issues worse than ever in third world countries, the museum aims to inform people of how problems have developed over time.
