15 days old Facebook Friends, Man murders Woman when they meet in person

After chatting with a Facebook friend for only 15 days, 42-year-old Baguiati homemaker Soma Ghosh agreed to meet him. That proved to be her undoing. The 33-year-old man from Birbhum landed up at her flat and murdered her in a fit of rage on Monday after she rebuffed his advances, police said on Thursday. Abhishek Majumdar, known as Totla Rana back home due to his stammering, was arrested from Bolpur on Wednesday night and brought to Kolkata. He used the name Nandan Sen on Facebook and was introduced to Soma on the social networking site by a close friend. Soma and Abhishek began chatting regularly and only seven days later reportedly exchanged phone numbers. Police say Soma invited Abhishek to her home.

Accordingly, he landed up at Soma's Rabindrapally apartment complex around 1pm on Monday and was actually escorted to her flat by a next-door neighbour. Police have two theories on what transpired next. "Both the man and the woman were shocked to find the real human being to be different from the virtual world," said an investigator. Majumdar is married and has a son. The short, slightly built man had posted the jazzy photo of a biker on his Facebook profile. "Majumdar desired a 'closer relationship', which Soma strongly opposed.

She was the mother of a 17-year-old girl. But the youth could not take her rejection and tried to force her. There was a scuffle and she fought back. In a fit of rage, he picked up a belan-chaki and a knife from the kitchen and attacked her. When she fell on the floor unconscious after the beating, Majumdar cut her throat and fled with Soma's phone as he was afraid that the numerous SMSs exchanged between the two would have led police to him," said an officer, adding that the murder was not planned. Another theory is that he might have been blackmailing her. Since the family says some gold bangles are missing, police are investigating if Abhishek took them to make it look like a robbery.

"He confessed that he killed her in a fit of rage and fled," said Bidhannagar ADCP Santosh Nimbalkar. It was Soma's daughter who found her body after returning from school around 3pm on Monday. Her throat was slit and there were multiple stab wounds on her chest and gashes on her hands, indicating she put up a fight. During investigation, police questioned her husband Sujit Ghosh, a family friend and a neighbour who also had a link in the Facebook chats between Soma and Abhishek. "After interrogating her, we came to know about Soma's new friendship with Nandan aka Abhishek and started tracking him down," an officer said.

All day. Every day. Get online, or go without. Get out of line with a DWP jobsworth and you’re sanctioned, like a million others. No more benefits. This enforcement regime is wrong. Nobody should be bullied into laptop labour, just because it’s more convenient for the bosses or officialdom. Young ’uns don’t mind, because it’s how they’ve been brought up. They’re hooked. Their brains are hyped up with overkill communication. There are even cases of babies addicted to iPads. And now computer capitalists are trying to invent a digital “soul”, a computerised version of yourself that will talk to people after you’ve died. 30,000 people have signed up, even though the project is 18 months from reality.

 The mind boggles. There is a generation (I belong to it, and so might you) that didn’t grow up with computers. We came to this game late. And while appreciating the good side of technology, we have no wish to be dominated by it. The myriad demands of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all the other “social media” gizmos reduce people to androids, with the average Brit checking for emails on their mobile phone more than 100 times a day. That’s precisely the charge made by retired art teacher Anne before she took a fatal overdose of barbiturates last month. “We are becoming robots,” were among her last words. “They say adapt or die. I feel I can’t adapt because the new age is not an age I grew up to understand.” What a moving epitaph.

Woman Writing Poll Slogans on Rice Grains to Create Poll Awareness

A woman artist in Jaipur has adopted a unique method to create awareness on the importance of voting - writing poll-related slogans on rice grains - and plans to display them at public places to draw the attention of voters. 

The 57-year-old Niru Chhabra says she chose 16 slogans to motivate people to vote and prepared the grains with miniature writing over a period of nearly two months. "The idea struck me two months ago and I wrote 16 selected slogans on rice grains - one word on one rice, with black paint with a brush," she told a news agency. "Each slogan, written on few grains, has been displayed on paperboard and decorated with coloured beads and other material in order to make it more attractive," she says. 

Chhabra, who started writing on rice in 1984, says she plans to display the slogans at public places to the catch attention of voters. Till now, she has written 108 letters on a single grain of rice with a brush besides Gayatri and Namokar mantras.

Morag Fisher was found lying in a pool of blood with life-threatening injuries after tumbling down a steep flight of stairs while staying with a friend. 

The mum-of-one remained asleep throughout the trauma and only regained consciousness when paramedics woke her in the ambulance on the way to hospital. The 40-year-old broke her back, neck and both wrists in the fall as well as her jaw, nose, eye socket and cheek bones

Woman Sells her baby for £300 in Istanbul airport

A 22-year-old woman from Turkmenistan has been arrested on suspicion of trying to sell her baby for £300 at Istanbul airport.

Police used CCTV to trace the woman's movements at Istanbul airport and came to the conclusion that she was trying to sell her four-month-old baby to a couple inside the building. It is believed that the couple agreed to pay 1000 Turkish Lira (£300) for the baby.

This Woman Has 35 Letter Surname

A woman in Hawaii with a 35-letter surname has persuaded the island's authorities to change their ID card and driving licence formats because her long name will not fit.

 Janice "Lokelani" Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele said she would never consider using a shortened version, and so used the media to urge officials to take action.
